KWIGISHA - 2021
BA Thesis Project
Kwigisha is a project aimed at developing a training model for educating a new generation of orthopedic technicians in Burundi. This initiative also focuses on establishing a local supply chain for prosthetic and orthotic materials, promoting sustainable solutions and self-sufficiency for the Orthopedic Center.
Over the past two decades, the lack of local education in orthopedic techniques has forced Burundians to study abroad, resulting in a shortage of specialists. Many remain abroad for better economic stability, while sourcing materials from overseas remains costly and challenging. The project's primary goal is to establish an educational framework that empowers trainers to teach future orthopedic technicians, ensuring the sustainability of the CNAR Atelier in Gitega.
The project includes the creation of an educational series and a training plan for orthopedic technicians, aiming to "teach the teachers" by providing didactic methods and theoretical knowledge for classroom management.
The ultimate objective is to enable CNAR to expand its services and interventions, building a sustainable and self-sufficient local infrastructure for orthopedic care in Burundi.
